Gamezino Has Been Busted!

This is a great day for the world of tapped out as Gamezino has shut down. Now there is no information of this on TSTO Tips but it has been updated, so they might still have control over TSTO Tips. If you ordered from Gamezino please try to get your money back from Paypal or your credit card company. I’m hoping that this is the last we have heard from Gamezino and would like for everything to move on. More information about the recent event’s can be found here. My fellow authors on the site might update the post when more information is discovered. Thanks again, Nathan.

Update #1-TSTO Tips twitter page tweeted “Gamezino is now closed. They will be missed” But there is no news if TSTO Tips will be closing down. In honestly I would hope that Gamezino would close down TSTO Tips as then that would end everything!

Update #2-On Reddit “Allenisastud” has removed his comments and I’m thinking his account with that. (This user could be the owner of the former site Gamezino as he stated in a comment)

MUST READ:

Update #3-A rumor is going around that Allen could have made a new site called GameGull, Now I think this is another hacker trying to get money and fame. Please do not go to this website as it seems very dodgy and has not been checked for virus’s, bugs, ect. We will keep you updated on the rise of this new site and I guess that the fight is not over yet.

I just got off the phone w PayPal n they said they were going to run an investigation for Gamezino n after that investigation they were going to decide if they were going to reimburse me or not, n that Internet transactions for intangible goods are not cover by em. I explain to em that it was a fraudulent website who took advantage of ppl n hacked into games but they really didnt seem concern…idk what PayPal is going to do but I hope they don’t side w Gamezino

      2. I can confirm that what nick said about paypal refunding money without argument is true. After I got transferred to the Fraud department, I explained the whole thing and Sarah said she’d get my money refunded quickly. Within a few minutes all three of my purchases were listed as Reversed.

So, yeah, I feel pretty stupid that I fell for something that was clearly too good to be true. But I’m glad I got my money back so easily. The thing I’m concerned about now is if my account will get shut down. I bought items from 2 or 3 past events, things I never had access to. But I assume EA is more concerned with people who bought fraudulent donuts. I’ve seen Mike S write that they’re probably only going to shut down people who repeatedly and blatantly used their services. I’m wondering how blatant? How many donuts does a person have to have bought before they should be concerned? 2000 donuts? 12000 donuts? 20000? 50000? How much did this service get abused, and at what level are some of us just small potatoes who don’t have much to worry about?

      3. Really? Ok, I’ll try the fraud department tomorrow…it’s weird that PayPal said that to me about doing an investigation first…
I agree, it sucks, i thought it was legit I bought donuts n the Halloween characters…I hope ea doesn’t do anything harsh, we were fooled, I didn’t do it on purpose, but at the same time I thought “how can they do this so quickly without accessing iTunes?” But I didn’t know that tsotips was hacked by Gamezino, that’s where I heard from Gamezino…

While I was a big fan of tstot and Mr. T I can’t help but feel really betrayed by him as I feel like our loyalty to his site was sold to hackers . I know he doesn’t owe anyone an apology or explaination but as who ran a great site and even answered some of my questions directly I’d really like to know just how exactly he came to the decision to sellout the fans of the site

      1. My best bet would be to tell PayPal that gamezino are illegitimate as the aren’t paying for any donuts which you thought they were as it was stated on their site. Tell them that you rather send the money to EA and if that doesn’t work tell them that you will spread the word of PayPal’s dodgy transactions.

For every person that thinks they are dishonest or whatever there are 10 more that don’t care and will use their “service” all we are doing is advertising to those people.

    Like

    1. That’s very true. While I’m one who believes they were (are) dishonest, I also understand that this probably doesn’t matter to a lot of people. It is what it is. :\

However, I also believe that a site like this is attempting to inform the public. They are mentioning that site (and others) to inform and warn people about the possible hazards of using their “services.” What the people reading this do with that information is completely on them. They are accountable for their own choices, and what they choose to do is in no way the fault of this site or any other like it.

I went onto the gamegull website for a laugh. One of the packages is 400,000 donuts, 400,000 krustyland tickets and 40 million dollars for $50. I don’t care how many “discounted iTunes vouchers” they have, no way in hell could they make any kind of profit off that. I don’t know how anyone could think the website is legit.

  13. So, other than comeuppance for taking advantage of good-willed people who bought into their sham, how is this beneficial to players?

And yes, this is an honest question from someone who has been screwed over by EA more than once, via the repeated shutdown of their social games when they no longer produce as much dough.

Far be it from me to encourage hacks but I think you’re overreacting to the news, the only ones who win with this are the other people who continue to offer donuts/items on twitter and EA, us players didn’t win from it: nobody got their money back, no improvements have been made to the game or the game experience, in fact you could even argue that instead of making the game better, fitting in new stories, improving on that pile of crap that is Squidport, or simply adding more familiar/established characters (Patty & Selma, Disco Stu, Miss Hoover, Jimbo & Dolph, Sherry & Terry, Gil, Lionel Hutz, Judge Snyder…), EA opted to develop a new way to extract money from their players with the addition of Krustyland, which is about the same thing as rebooting your game with new things for you to buy.

    Like

    1. A few things to comment on:

      * How is this beneficial to players?
It is beneficial to the players who pay for the donuts honestly. Say what you want about hacking, these sites allow for people to get more than honest players get for less than what honest players pay. How is eliminating a major offender like GZ detrimental?

      * There will always be offenders like this, just like there will always be crime going on in the world no matter what form it may take.

      * I am not a developer, but I can only imagine how much time it takes to develop new content and to diagnose and fix bugs, glitches, etc. While you and I may not like waiting for these things, expecting an immediate fix is rather unreasonable.

      * EA is a business, and like any business, they are in the business of making money. Anything any company does is designed to get you to give them your money. That’s not wrong.

      * Sites like GZ and the like do not compensate the game developers for their sales, despite what they say to the contrary. This means that money that should be going to the people who deserve it are going to people who are being dishonest and selfish.

      * Do I think that the big celebration and broo-haha (love that term) is an over-reaction?
A bit, yes. GZ, as we have come to know it, may be gone, but it will be back in some form or fashion, and there are going to be plenty more like it out there in the future (and apparently there already is).

You can play Tapped Out completely free. That’s one hell of a deal. The complaining I hear from people about a game that is completely free and that constantly updates just baffles my mind.

Even the players that choose to steal end up getting screwed. Thanks to Gamezino, the hack is no longer available to everybody.

        Like

      2. Michael, I don’t think that EA believes one bit that their donut prices are unreasonable at all. Considering that this game alone profited millions of dollars for them, making a case that they are overcharging will be a considerably tough task.

    2. Of course you should. If having $25 stolen from you is so insignificant, I’ll be more than happy to take it off your hands.

On Aug 22, I received an email from a Devin Armstrong claiming to sell cheap TSTO donuts and cash and other items. His website was gamegull.com

    4. Do you have a copy of your email from ea I could see? I wrote ea and they closed my case saying that there was no way to go back in origin to prior to my purchase from gamezino and that they didn’t know whether or not my game would be suspended…I thought I was being an honest player by admitting this…

      Like

      1. That’s concerning. I would think they’d appreciate people wanting to make good on having been scammed. If they are going to suspend me, I’m not sure how much time I want to put into continuing to play frankly. Or sure, I’d be willing to buy some more legitimate donuts (and I certainly have in the past) but if they suspend me I’m just throwing good money after bad.

Moreover, how are people who write EA getting different reactions? One person they take the donuts away and “forgive” and someone else they say “we don’t know how we’re going to deal with you but you may be suspended for admitting your inadvertant wrongdoing” – those are very different reactions and not consistent. EA really needs to decide what they want to do and be consistent. And I would definitely prefer some sort of grace period with which to try to correct things with them. But who knows?

It looks like me like they are just rebranding as the new company in order to get around whatever EA is doing to them. It sounded exactly like the same old scam except this time there is “No Waiting for Delivery” and the prices have gone up a decent amount. My guess is that the Gamezino guys had this up and running ready to cutover as soon as they shutdown the old site. I don’t think we can celebrate quite yet…

    1. Tstotips could easily throw the new “conned” site onto the site and this mess could start all over again, very true. But are they that stupid? Obviously the people who threw Zino onto Tstotips wanted to go all out before they were caught, but in doing so woke up the sleeping giant. EA is wise to them and if the same people did the same thing again with a new site, EA won’t be a step behind this time around. I’d like to think so anyways.

Just told them in three lines that gamezino used hacking for their business instead of doing it legally as stated in their FAQs, and that I now might get banned by EA for using their service. Then I received an Mail that Gamezino denied my refund (oh wonder) but one day later good guy paypal refunded every Cent 🙂 glad Gamezino lost this one! Wish you luck for your claims, keep up trying.

    3. Escalate the case. Whether or not the items were delivered and whether or not they are “virtual items,” you were lied to about what you were getting. PayPal cannot deny a claim simply based on you receiving “virtual items” if you were misled.

If PayPal continues to refuse refund on the basis that these are “virtual items,” you can escalate your claim to your credit card company, bank, or whoever else your account is linked to. You may also contact the police, Better Business Bureau, Attorney General, and any other government entities/consumer watch groups you may think of. Let PayPal know that if they refuse to reverse the charge, you will be adding their name to the complaints.

    4. I got my claim back from paypal within a day. I would say ask again. Say it was fraud and you never received the goods. I didnt bother mentioning it was virtual goods I didnt receive.

    5. I would also say to talk to your credit card company. Paypal gave me the same line about not protecting virtual purchases, but they refunded some of the money as a “courtesy” – they told me to talk to my credit card company. They refunded me right away and are doing an investigation, so we’ll see.

  25. I’m still very skeptical about all of this.

If you go to the page, at the bottom there is a spot that allows you to access the store with a password. So the store is still online.

Bets on how long before they’re back up with an excuse why???

    1. I got an email along the lines of “As a former GAMEZINO customer you’ll be happy to hear about us!” I’m pretty sure this is coming from the same folks and they are just going to rebrand and continue the scam as long as they can. I wouldn’t be suprised if this pattern continues like the whole bath salts thing.

  26. Interesting how the use the term “make a profit” as the prices they were selling at would mean that their discounted iTunes gift cards would have to have been bought for 90% less than store value. Anyone believe that apple release gift cards for that value??

    1. All I know is, now people do know. Chalk it up to a big lesson learned if you got baited into it, other wise, let’s hope things can finally turn back to normal. Though with TstoTips still up, I’d like to think it won’t be, just yet. We need closure, literally. Then we can all breath a sigh of relief and move past it once and for all. 🙂

      1. True. Right on. I think when it happened people were excited and the adrenaline raced to their heads. I showed my friend the gamezino site the other day wondering what his thoughts were and the same thing came to him. “That looks sus. It looks really dodgy.” Was he reply. My suggestion for people is, next time calm down and think rationally. Never by premium from a freemium game outside the game. And if you can’t find cheap gift vouchers, what makes you think they can?
