R.I.P. Spoilers……You will be missed

I thought I’d take a detour from the  Level 33 and Level 34 content and talk about something I’ve had on my mind lately and just read an article from one of our great friends named kera2k from another trusted site called tstonews.com.  This article all but confirmed my theory.

The specualtion now is that EA has stopped allowing the insertion of raw files into the updated game files. The importance to us weirdo Tappers, is so that a skilled person can go in , decode and read the files because they contain incredible info on what EA has either planned to put in the game previously or what they have planned next for the game. A lot of awesome people like spAnser has always been able to tell us what’s next and have allowed us to create Spoiler posts.

Since the irrational takeover at tstotips, there has been an enormous amount of collateral damage. Too many to AGAIN cover it here but one thing that is different since all of that nonsense is that EA had placed nothing in the files and as a result have shut us all off from any juicy upcoming info. I found out just yesterday that after this surprise update EA has again elected to put nothing in the files to give us a hint on what may be next.

Take it how you want it but my personal take on this is this, EA has not released any type of statement on the whole hacking, Tips and GameZino situation, not that they owe us any but one would be nice. Rather than release a statement, I ‘m thinking they are stopping their practice of “the files” as sort of  a “Hey , we still run this thing and we are still in charge here” type thing. Maybe this is their statement. Again this is just my theory.

I think this move of every update being a unannounced, surprise update stinks. One of my favorite aspects of these blog sites, now too many of them, were the spoiler posts. I didn’t NEED to know what was coming because of cash or donuts issue and have more than enough, but a lot of people rely on those posts to kind of prepare for what’s to come. Since EA is not releasing anymore regular land (HELLO EA!!! RELEASE MORE LAND!!!!!), a good portion of players are running out of room and it would be vital in knowing what “could” be coming for planning issues. That’s one take.

Another take on it is this and it’s simple,  I do not go to a movie and PAY to watch it if I have seen the trailer for it and haven’t check previously on how much the movie costs so therefore I can plan.  It sounds weird but that it the truth. So I want to know what all of you think, do you like the “file” info which leads to spoiler posts or do you just like to wing it and whatever happens, happens?

Either way, thanks to certain knuckleheads who have successfully ruined the routine of Tapped Out that a lot of us have become accustomed to, you can bet that the days of knowing what’s coming in the game are over. Let us know in the comments what you think and take the poll. Happy Tapping!

  1. I liked to read the spoilers, but I now find that I don’t miss them. For me, it took a bit of the excitement about a new level away when I already knew in advance what was coming. I have plenty of plots of land left, so no space problem for me, and money is coming in quickly enough so that saving up doesn’t take too long. Besides, what’s so bad about having to wait a bit for a new building because of having to save money for it. Rushing through the game is not appealing to me. I noticed that without the spoilers it’s more fun for me.

  2. I alway enjoyed seeing the pictures of what was coming, it was exciting. I never read the full scripts though, as I feel like that sort of took some of the fun out of it.

  3. 1.I like Spoiler,because I can plan the layout for it and save money.(for example:200.000€,so when I have 300.000€,I can buy land-expansions)
    2.I don’t like Spoiler,because it’s so frustrating to wait and extreme-frustrating,when it can’t/doesn’t/didn’t come,when it is/was planned.

    Which point is stronger?

Sorry, for my bad english,I’m just a little kid.

  4. I don’t think this is the end of the files, I think EA are just cooling things for a bit thanks to the idiots. And I believe this is also why premium items are becoming so expensive (I mean 150 for Sherri and Terri?!) They are trying to get some of their money back from all that zino hacking. I mean if you believed the cheap donuts post and did buy some bits, you wouldn’t have bothered to buy just 10 donuts, you probably brought hundreds, if not more, so they will last a while.

However, I mean I can’t be sure, but a lot of people still following the idiot site are complaining of not being able to get level 34 and they have brought some of the new bits, but when they next logged in, it was all gone, including the money and donuts they had spent. Now I haven’t read all the comments on here, but I don’t believe anyone has reported this problem…seems funny huh? Maybe EA are getting their own back, who knows! Just seems funny is all…

On a more happy note I am loving that the original team is here, and I love all the new writers too, especially Em 🙂 Thank you, you guys, I would be totally lost without this blog! I don’t come here for spoilers (although they are nice lol) I just love reading posts from people who love the Simpsons and tsto as much ad I do 🙂

  5. I can go either way. On one hand, I like the element of surprise. In a game like this, surprise updates are hardly a bad thing. On the other hand, I liked the spoilers because it added an element of anticipation. You knew what was coming and were chomping at the bit for EA to hit the button to let us have it. We had been anticipating SquidPort and KrustyLand for quite some time before they were released, and there was a lot of excitement and buzz that was generated BECAUSE OF the spoilers.

I think having the spoilers was more of a positive than not having them…however it’s not a necessity, either. If I don’t know what’s coming in the next update a month or two beforehand, my life will be no worse off and I don’t think the world will come to an end. 🙂

  6. I think just pictures of what’s to come including a rough cost of each (buildings, decorations, characters, etc.) would be just enough for me, but i could do without the full scripts of dialogue. I think the full scripts take away the surprise element.

  10. Spoilers I don’t know. It seems more like on the old blog EA was reading and listening to us, how many times did someone say I want this or it would be cool if…..like knowing who visited your town, or a cancel button for donuts, or 4 way fences, or more females, and viola it’s in the game. There were probably more spoilers that came out from people wishing then from the files. What would be great is to have someone from EA become a friend of this blog, someone ya’ll would know who he/she is but the rest of us who be clueless, that way this can be the official unofficial rumor mill.
I felt that way about the old blog, it was #1 (first place we turned to) EA listened and cared, and the game got better and better. Spoilers matter like that age old question “where are you going” the answer “I’ll know when I get there”.

  11. I do Simpsons Tapped out ‘Let’s Play!’ videos on Youtube and I rarely ever look up spoilers. The majority of the fun for me is not knowing what’s going to happen next. While I do appreciate all the hard work everyone does for spoilers on here, for me, not knowing is half the fun. (Or in this case, most of the fun!) 🙂

  12. I’m indifferent about spoilers. For the most part, spoilers just gives you an idea of any new characters/buildings/decorations, but don’t really tell you the size of the buildings, the cost of things, or when it will be released, so those who are planning to fit it in still can’t do too much. I personally don’t think this is the end for spoilers; I think EA is just testing out the network capabilities of whether or not it makes sense to bundle future content with new updates or not.

Let’s be honest: all of us will still play the game regardless of spoilers. It’s not like spoilers are the main reason people decide if they still want to play. Those invested in spoilers follow blogs/forums as well, so they will not miss out on any new content regardless of whether spoilers exist.

  13. To look at your analogy a different way, I’m not going to not see a movie just because I saw a preview… The spoilers were nice teasers and although I don’t use them for budgeting purposes, my interest was piqued based on what I had heard/seen in teasers in the past. I do like a few “surprise elements” but I think EA is doing themselves a disservice by not allowing a few spoilers to come out.

And land. Gimme some land! I had heard (rumor??) that there were 48 squares of land that EA was supposed to release at some point? I’m not (intentionally) making that up. Anyone else hear something like that?

  14. No official statement from EA but Nelson’s dialogue before building the haunted condo in Krustyland was pretty spot on 😀

Spoilers can be annoying and ruin enjoyment for some people. A balance needs to be found, a simple teaser images is enough rather than the complete script for the next level.

Nothing wrong with a little speculation around teasers – it helps with planning and cash / donut building.

    1. I agree with the script part to a point but a lot of characters old and new require certain buildings that people don’t have . Knowing the tasks can help them prepare for for what’s coming

I kind of like the spoilers, because it helps me prepare.I had no room for the high school, so I had to rush around trying to make room.

  16. I don’t want to do any complicated redesigns of my town without spoilers. I just don’t like the idea of spending hours getting a section just right for a related building to come out and mean I have to start again. I miss the spoilers. I think they were great advertising for EA as they get people talking. I want them back.

  17. I think we were more thankful for posts before the recent happenings because the spoilers were so rare. Nowadays it’s a lot more about personal likings and style of writing.
    I love minicha’s posts btw. 🙂

Nowadays angels are at war (hackers vs nonhackers) and we don’t even know what we’re paying for. Yeah, it kind of sucks.

Though it hasn’t changed my game at all. It’s just not as social anymore. Things just seem to have gotten a bit tense and yes – I admit that I am quite sensitive when it comes to tensions and ways to express yourself! Everything has a meaning, even on the internet.

Somehow I hope that EA can spice up the social aspect of the game by putting in an internal chat between friends in TSTO. For me that would be a total savior!

    2. I’m sick of the hack/ not hack dividing line too. I’m against GameZino for charging and lying but I don’t care who hacks and who doesn’t. I’m not about that I’m about getting the most out of the game period.

      Like

      1. Thing is, Gamezino didn’t just close the doors to Nirvana (our enlightenment on goodie stuff coming up in TSTO). The closing of the gates also made hacking impossible, or am I wrong? Do people still hack the game?

  18. Its not necessary to know, what the next level will bring.

I think its not a good idea to expand the Springfield aerea. Probabely only players with house-farming have problems. I have all items, included the premium ones, and have no problem with land.
If I look for a certain person, or Sideshow Bob, I loose time to find them. Without a tool for searching persons a land expansion makes no sence

    1. Lots of people run out space without house farms. There are some mega-designers out there who take buildings to the next level. They look great.

      Like

    2. That’s a piss poor assumption. I do not or have ever house farmed and am out of land. Don’t assume.

      Like

    3. I have to agree with Chis and Mike on this one! I don’t have a house farm and I am still almost out of land. But I don’t have a single building that isn’t decorated. Right now there’s a section if my town with the buildings I haven’t placed lumped together because I don’t have enough room anymore and it breaks my heart! I’m just desperately waiting for more land!

  19. I think it would be nice to have a few teasers in the files to get us excited and then release a few extras with the level update as well. I think Mike’s reference of a movie trailer is perfect. It isn’t the whole thing, but enough to get you excited about what’s coming.

    1. Spot on. However I do like speculation, I like pretending we know what is coming.

  20. Just another way for EA to show they still hold all the cards. If it wasn’t for our money and time this game woulda died on the first release with all the bugs. Spoilers were kool, liked seeing what may be coming, but… to be honest…I’ve been bored with game. Krustyland is a let down. Almost as slow as Squidport. I own all the land and am out of room. The last three updates worth of buildings are sitting on the beach. Until something MAJOR happens with the game I’m done.

im also one step behind on quests still doing level 33 but i did have enough to build the high school. the spoilers were nice but not necessary for me. I did find it humorous how some were asking for spoilers on the next level the day after or even the same day a level was released. My thoughts on tips downfall. Mr Tips has lost all trust & credibility by not coming out and saying why he did what he did. The level of trust he had gained was wiped out in my opinion. and please im not buying into the “theres a gag order” that whole thing stunk of BS. LOL my first and last Rant..Anyways keep up the fine work here. and as always HAPPY TAPPING

  22. I really enjoyed knowing what characters were coming and decorations. It made me excited and would usually cause me to play more frequently. Since building costs are going up, buying land is becoming an issue (for me at least). It’s either I buy a building and place it down in a spot where it doesn’t fit or buy a few plots of land and not build the building right when the patch hits.

One of my more terrifying concerns though is the increase in the premium character donut cost. I feel as though EA is trying to cleanse the donut market because of the hacking but a 60 donut price increase for the twins (Dr. Nick is 90) is unfair to those who are playing the game legitimately and are buying donuts from EA. This could be a very slippery slope… 😦

  23. I kinda like the idea of not knowing what’s coming next for an update. Its great that EA is giving us level updates like every two weeks but with all the new buildings my town is starting to look a little tight. 😮 MORE LAND EA!!!!

  24. Don’t have a problem with not knowing what’s coming up. I like surprises and I’ve always been behind so the spoilers didn’t make much difference. Up until recently I was usually a level or two behind – although I’m catching up. I guess it’s more of a problem for you guys (and gals) giving us the heads up and walkthrus straight off the mark. If this the fallout from EA at least it shows they were concerned and watching what was happening. I still love the game and it won’t affect how I play.

  27. The reason I like the spoilers is beacsue it gives me a sence of comfort knowing that the game isn’t gonna suddenly stop and all my work developing my town is going to wast. It keeps me excited.
I spent all my saved money 500k on mental hospital, zesty and 8 blocks of land. Now I’m down to 100k and can’t afford the highschool. Had I known, waited, or even thought a little I would have saved money and moved on in the quest.
But it was a nic surprise for the update.
The gane hasn’t been the same aince the “issue” and I have lost interest. Mike S was one of my favorite writera so I’m glad I found him here.
I feel lost, as I’m trying to adjust.
Also, many times my posts are not posting so is that a problem with me or the site? I notice because i try to see if anyone replies but i can t see my poat. this is days after i post it. Thanks.

It may take a while for comments to be passed. I can only speak for me, but if I come across a question I can not answer, I let it sit so that someone who do know, sees it. If I pass it, chances are that it is not seen nor answerd, same if the Q is directed to a particular member of the team.

  28. I was reading the spoilers and would get excited for what is coming….but in a way, I think I will enjoy the game more with a little more mystery to it. I remember being a little disappointed when a speculated update didn’t happen, or when a certain item wasn’t included…but if there wasn’t a spoiler, I would have been happy as a clam with what actually came out, instead of wondering why something didn’t that was in the files. Just my two cents.

  30. I’m on the fence. I like knowing. But I played the first 24 levels with the only spoiler being the building costs. So, really, I don’t need to know to keep enjoying my game. I’m still going to enjoy the heck out of it.

BUT, I’m with you on the ‘like to plan’ thing. I was always thinking about where to put my next building. I will miss that aspect of the spoiler posts.

I think EA is kind of shooting itself in the foot here. I think Krustyland went over like fireworks because we were all spoiled into knowing it wascoming, so we were all super excited for it (most people. Not everyone, of course) The fans created the hysteria and excitement over it that otherwise wouldn’t have happened if EA had kept the cat in the bag.

But i think you may be right when you say this is their statement. Kind of like, we let you find the spoilers and this how you thank us? You are all cut off! The EA equivalent of mom taking the toy away from the squabbling siblings.

    2. I agree. I had a suspicion that Level 34 would arrive yesterday. It was a Thursday and it had been a couple of weeks since 33. I don’t have a real problem with a lack of spoilers. Yea – it’s fun to read about them and build up some anticipation, but they’re not what keeps me in the game. So not having them won’t bother me too much.

      1. I’d actually thought it’d be next week. My suspicion is that Halloween will come at the back end of September along with the season premiere promo. A week would have led there to being less time for that. It also depends on the length of the level.
