For those of you who have already tapped through a major event before, you should have some idea of what to expect. When I say major, I don’t mean St Patrick’s Day or the Forth of July events. I mean a big event like the 4 we have had already (Halloween, Christmas, Valentines Day and Whacking Day). For those who are unsure of what to expect or have never played during a major event, this post is for you. And with Halloween just around the corner and EA being … well, EA, we should be ready to expect the worst.
Although this is the second Halloween event to occur since the game’s existence, I feel it would be better to combine a comparison of both the 2012 Halloween event and the 2013 whacking day, both being two of the biggest events released, yet completely different to each other.
So, that being said, let’s look at what we need to do, in preparation for the 2013 Halloween event.
I recommend, seen as though this is a major event, that you get you friend lists back up to 100, or 101 including the “other Springfield”. You can do so by listing your name or searching here on our choo-choo-choose me page. Alternatively, you can follow the links on that page to the Krustyland friends provided that you currently own Krustyland too. This is because during major events, EA make everything sociable. It was so social during the whacking day event that you could help a friend but quite possibly not be helped in return, the result being, people making egg buddies or even missing out on some of the prizes. That page is sole purpose only, so please don’t put your name on any other page or post.
I suggest that you leave one position free on you friends list. This is because I suggest for you to open a new account with origin by using a second email address. This is because, if you can’t rely on your friends on your friends list, you can always rely on yourself with a second account. Even though, the Whacking Day event was extended, many people missed out on some of the prizes. I did not have this problem. In fact got all the whack boxes at the end, after the prizes because I had two extra accounts. And at the same time, I was helping other people get their prizes too.
I always recommend saving up. This is for four reasons. Although there has never been a major event using cash, they do have some limited time decorations. Last year people decorated with dead trees and pumpkin patches (which go great with Cletus’s farm) and when used right, they look great. During whacking day, there were some stalls, a banner and a snake windsock ( which gave good exp).
That brings to the second reason to save. Experience. During a major event, limited time items give exp along with the quest off tap-tap-tapping. Whether its toilet papering friends houses, leaving valentines cards or even squashing snakes, every time one of these actions is carried out, our experience bar goes up. This means more chances to get three free donuts on the bonus level. As we know, you can have two second chances if you don’t get the three donuts on the first try. Because it costs $50,000 to have a second chance, I recommend that you have plenty of cash left over for when you get this. This is for people who have or close to reaching the bonus level after the max level.
Now, the third reason is in the case of a level update. We never know when EA will throw one of these at us so its always good to be prepared. It seems as though that EA will allow time for the event’s quests to be completed first though before releasing a level update. So, I wouldn’t expect level 36 to be released for another 2 or 3 weeks.
The final reason is land. If your expanding, you definately want a spare chunk of new land for new buildings, as in the past there have been problems with building disappearances and even a rebuild time for a stored building. I never store limited time buildings or characters for this reason.
Land is the most important. In the past, it wasn’t uncommon to have to wait another 24 hours because you stored a building or it disappearing completely due to glitches. And we all know how much EA loves their glitches. The best way is to buy up more land. The best way to do this is to save $100,000 then buy 1 block. Then for every $100,000 you buy another. Alternatively, you can buy a block once a day or every second day. Work out a system that works for you. Try to keep your town tidy too. Cluttered or messy towns can make it hard for friends to find things. Things that are trying to hide (like snakes during whacking day) if there is anything trying to hide are the worst.
Quests are forever, events are not. Its best to look ahead and make sure putting certain characters on a certain task isn’t going to affect the limited time quest line. Whether its a level, Squidport or Krustyland quest line that you are currently doing, its best to put it off until you have at least got what you wanted or otherwise wait until the event is over. This is because the event is for a limited time only whereas, level, Squidport and Krustyland quests will still be there waiting to be cleaned up and resumed after the event is over and done with.
Make sure the day before, all characters are in Springfield and on small tasks. You never know what may happen. Also make sure they are on short tasks. If you are going to sleep, put them on 8 hour tasks for the duration of your work. Make sure you plan ahead. All events have usually required the first few characters to progress through the quest line. This is so new players don’t miss out. So make sure Homer, Lisa, Apu (not in all American Apu skin), Flanders, Cletus, Krusty, Milhouse, Skinner, Burns and Willie are easy access. Its most likely that Lisa or Homer will set off the event. Also make sure none of your characters are wearing their skins.
The best thing about Squidport is that it comes inside your Springfield and it’s also self-sustainable when you have finished. It’s easy to pull characters out of Squidport when you need them and everything runs on Springfield cash. Most importantly, you proberly won’t even use Squidport during the Halloween update, as we have just received the Three-eyed Fish Sushi Bar as part of the start of the new season promotion. If you are currently still building Squidport, I recommend only building the tiles and leave the buildings and quests until after the event.
If you are taking it slow like me in Krustyland, I strongly recommend removing your characters the day before. Let your buildings do the ticket collecting but make sure you have some spare land and tickets just in case. 20,000 tickets would be more than plenty as events tend to have their own currency, but you never know with Krustyland either.
If you have donuts, i suggest you wait for the update as any premium item released with it, most likely won’t extend the event. Remember this, Abe Lincoln was an exception but he was released with a minor event not major.
So thats my advice. Choose for yourself how you will/ won’t use it but be warned for new tappers. This isn’t a minor event like Fourth of July. Major events drive some people to the Calmwood Mental Hospital. Best thing to do is to relax and help each other. If you get all the prizes, help someone else. And most important, don’t stress, have fun.
