What Changed with the Stonecutters Event Update?

In addition to the new items added with the Stonecutters Event update, there were a few other changes to the game (note: I’m only looking at already existing items, items specific to the Event will be covered elsewhere):

  • The timer to auto collect rewards was shortened from 10 seconds to 5 seconds.
  • As others have pointed out already, the items in the lists of buildings and decorations have moved around some, and scrolling left to right is much faster.
  • The Conform-o-meter dialog box now includes how much of a bonus multiplier you earn from conformity and decorations. Similarly, the Krust-o-meter dialog box has how much of a bonus multiplier you earn in Krustyland from conformity and decorations.
  • A new character locator (or census) has been added to the Springfield Town Hall.

  • A new button has been added to the move screen, which will allow you to “blast” your town and store every item (which can be stored) into inventory.
  • You can now hide water and roads while in the move screen.
  • Availability of some of the premium items has changed based on whether you’re in the event or not. The changes are pretty extensive but appear to affect at which level the items are available for purchase. It doesn’t seem to affect gameplay that much, but I can go into more detail if necessary.
  • Sideshow Bob has a flag added which makes him invisible to the new Census feature. It looks like all the NPCs have the flag too.
  • In the level 36 quest Run With The Bullies Part 16, Luigi was removed from the list of characters who can Eat At Luigi’s.
  • In the Squidport quest The Frying Dutchman Part 1, the Sea Captain is now excluded from the list of characters who can Eat At The Frying Dutchman. Makes sense, since he has a job in that quest to Work At The Frying Dutchman at the same time everyone else is eating there.
  • The Krustyland Entrance was changed from storeoverride=”true” to storeoverride=”false”. Similarly, the Krustyland Shuttle in Springfield isn’t storeable.
  • A 7-day default job reward was added. A regular character will earn $3000 and 750 XP and a premium character will earn $4500 and 1125 XP. Also a 7-day default building reward was added, which earns $1500 and 150 XP regularly and $2500 and 225 XP for a premium building.

The use of character groups has been expanded in the code. New groups include:

  • Civil Servants: Rex Banner, Chief Wiggum, Mayor Quimby, Lou, Eddie, Judge Snyder, Selma, Patty
  • Celebrity: Abraham Lincoln, Krusty, Duffman, Brockman, Bumblebee Man, Dr. Nick, Sideshow Mel, Drederick Tatum, Miss Springfield, Arnie Pye, Booberella, Wolfcastle
  • Senior: Abraham Lincoln, Agnes, Superintendent Chalmers, Mr. Burns, Ned Flanders, Grampa, Hans Moleman, Kent Brockman, Tom O’Flanagan, Jasper, Judge Snyder, Suzanne The Witch
  • Women: Agnes, Marge, Mrs. Krabappel, Miss Springfield, Shary Bobbins, Crazy Cat Lady, Mindy, Brandine, Luann, Kumiko, Miss Hoover, Bernice Hibbert, Selma, Patty, Manjula, Booberella, Maude Flanders, Suzanne The Witch, Kodos
  • Pessimist: Agnes, Moe, CBGuy, Reverend Lovejoy, Grampa, Willie, Mrs. Krabappel, Arnie Pye, Dolph, Hugs Bunny, Jasper, Selma, Patty
  • Youngster: Sherri&Terri, Bart, Lisa, Milhouse, Squeaky Voice Teen, Martin, Kearney, Nelson, Ralph, Shauna, Dolph, Jimbo, Rod, Todd
  • Entrepreneur: Apu, Moe, Mr. Burns, CBGuy, Luigi, Fat Tony, Lugash, The Rich Texan, Herman, Tribal Chief
  • Kook: Apu, Professor Frink, Cletus, Krusty, Willie, Hans Moleman, Otto, Kang, Bumblebee Man, Ralph, Hugs Bunny, Shary Bobbins, Crazy Cat Lady, Brandine, Herman, Disco Stu, Rod, Todd, Kodos, Sea Captain, The Yes Guy
  • Glutton: Homer, CBGuy, Chief Wiggum, Mayor Quimby, Barney
  • Dimwit: Homer, Cletus, Grampa, Chief Wiggum, Duffman, Otto, Dr. Nick, Barney, Ralph, Lenny, Sea Captain, Wolfcastle
  • Brainiac: Lisa, Principal Skinner, Professor Frink, CBGuy, Hank Scorpio, Martin, Dr. Hibbert, Sideshow Mel, Crazy Cat Lady
  • High Roller: Mr. Burns, Mayor Quimby, Hank Scorpio, Brockman, Fat Tony, The Rich Texan, Bernice Hibbert, Wolfcastle, Mr. Costington
  • Saint: Ned Flanders, Reverend Lovejoy, Father Sean, Rod, Todd, Maude Flanders
  • Criminal: Snake, Mayor Quimby, Fat Tony, Legs, Louie, Herman

In addition to the new character groups, Judge Snyder, Cocoa Beanie, Miss Hoover, Bernice Hibbert, and Sanjay were added to the Regular Characters group. The Blue Haired Lawyer, Manjula and Dewey Largo were added to the Premium Characters group.

So why are these character groups important? They’re used in the Stonecutter quests to enable groups of similar characters to do a similar job. As long as they keep the character groups up to date, it’s easier to specify in the code the character group than list individual characters. For example, they could specify the Glutton group to eat at Krusty Burger rather than having to list each character.

If you spot anything else, let us know!

    • Chicago hockeyfan? I assume you mean the Nighthawk and Rex Banner. It was in spAnsers spoilers but has no part in the event. My guess is that it will come at the very end of the SC deadline as a re-release for the 4th of July, when it came last year.

  1. The Drunks are:
    Bernice.
    Carl.
    Eddie.
    Homer.
    Lenny.
    Lou.
    Mindy.
    Sanjay.
    Skinner.
I think that’s all of them.
    Hope that helps.

  2. When the stonecutters update happened I noticed that I can’t store any trees and no wooden fences. Is this just me? Also what is this about exchanging krusty tickets for cash? Please help

    • Yes, there were major problems with storing trees and other things when they introduced the nuclear blast/store all button. They’ve disabled storing a lot of items with a later in-game update. See that post here.

Once you’re done with all of the Krustyland quests, as in you’ve built the Tooth Chipper and Bart has ridden it, then you can trade tickets for game cash at the entrance. Just tap on the entrance.

  3. Does the Squeaky Voiced Teen speak a new permanent phrase? I just sent him on Number 1’s task for a youngster to “drink an extra-cold Squishy” and SVT said “Minimum wage for this?” with emphasis on “this”, then he walked to the nearest Quik-E-Mart. I googled that phrase and checked the Simpsons Wiki and it’s not listed. I’ve tried every one of his regular tasks and can’t get SVT to repeat the phrase I heard. Do some characters speak limited-time phrases for the Stonecutters event?

    • I’ve noticed it too, and it played only when he got assigned that task. Looks like the audio file has been around forever, but all of his regular jobs are “good” ones, and this file is associated with “bad” jobs. And apparently drinking an extra-cold Squishy is a bad job. 🙂

  4. I seem to have the Green Forest Trees being stacked up every time I go into my inventory. It uses to be 400 and now it’s 700. EA needs to fix this inventory problem

  5. I can’t get the day 2 quests to work is it just mine or is anyone else got the same problem the screen just flashes

    Like

      • I have the same problem: day 1 it worked fine (got up to full rewards (400 sc gems)) but at the start of day 2 the upper right button glitch became active (and I got the in-game update at day 1). So now I can’t access ”number one’s tasks” anymore.

        • Disappointing the glitch is still there. You can still do the tasks though, but it’s tougher to find. You have to look at characters and see if they have different tasks than normal available. Hopefully EA will get a permanent fix for this problem very soon!

  9. Someone may want to double check this, but it looks like they changed the dollar amounts and XP awarded when you tap on the leprechauns that were obtained for St. Patrick’s Day. I have the yuppie version and before the update I would get $13 and 3 XP every time I tapped him. Now it looks like I’m only getting $5 and 1 XP.

    • Many have said the same. In the past you could hit jackpot when tapping your Leprechaun. Normally it would pay ~10 depending on bonus but sometimes you’d get 25!

  10. I noticed something new that hasn’t been listed yet.

When cycling through your friends’ towns, if you back out of a town to go to your friend list, the town you last visited will be the town in the middle of the screen. You no longer have to cycle through your friends’ towns to find the one you were last on.

This does NOT apply when cycling through the Origin friend list (to hide or remove friends).

I hope I explained it well. It was a rather complicated explanation in my head.

    • It’s been like that for me for a long time (I’m on Android) 🙂
If you go back to the friend screen or push the “home” button in a friend’s town then return to friends screen it will track your progress, so to speak, in going through every friend-town – like you said.
If they could only implement a way for the game to remember this if (when!) the game crashes I’d be one happy tapper 😀

      • That’s true. But the new feature is even better, as now the town list scrolls in the background while you tap through the towns. It’s a very welcome improvement.

  11. Will there be a add friends page for this event. Only a handful of my friends have started the event, need more active friends!

  12. They seemed to have changed how the scrolling works on the friends screen. I find it much harder to quickly swipe over 7 or 8 pages like I did in the past, the swiping seems laggy. Not sure if this is true in all I use iOS.

  14. Some nice, new usability features with this new update. Like the Town Hall ‘tracker’, hiding roads/water – yes, I was always clicking these too and I guess the nuke feature is useful to those who are rebuilding their towns.

  16. I’ve noticed that the leprechaun pays out less now when tapped. Both of mine are. I used to get $20 something & now I’m getting $5. It must not take your bonus into account anymore. I’m loving this event!! One of the things I love the most is getting to see the animations for all the “dead” buildings again!! I’m hoping everyone keeps tapping my bad dream house!

  17. Wow, loads of changes. I had to uninstall, and I fell asleep before the download completed. I’ll be looking more into it after school!

  18. Teeny tiny thing: the animation for Channel 6 (revolving satelite dish) is now active when there is nothing going on, and as soon as I put on a program it stops.

    • I have noticed that the 3 buildings I have on the same block as the Stonecutter’s Lodge (Bad dream house, Ultrahouse 2 and Sanjay’s) all have their animations running with no job going on. I wonder if it has something to do with the stonecutters? Is your building near the Stonecutters?

      Like

      • I have the mapple store with a constant animation and yes it is near the stonecutters lodge… Hmm, some secret mysterious things are going on in that lodge!

        Like

      • Not really, no, but it still might be connected. If a neighbor taps on it, the animation is started, and it doesn’t stop when I remove the pyramid-eye.

  21. You can’t store pine trees currently. I was unable to find any of my pine trees, so I bought more, then tried to store them and it wasn’t an option. I think it’s a mistake.

    Like

    • From my experience since at least the Easter update, you can’t store any item that you just bought but where the XP for buying it haven’t been collected.

And now there’s a new bug that any trees you store may turn into the small trees with pot…

      Like

      • Yeah! I used to have a hundread of the squidport trees(the one with the pots) and now I have more than a thousand and all of my other trees dissapear.

  22. I noticed that you can now turn off streets, water, etc when you want to edit your Springfield. So glad EA did this. It was annoying that I kept on tapping streets when I meant to tap on a building or decoration.
