For Season 27 updated table please refer to Part 3. For Season 28 updated table please refer to Part 6.

The Season Premiere: Every Man’s Dream

  • The title of the season premiere is “Every Man’s Dream”
  • The episode is scheduled to air in September 27, 2015.
  • The plot of the season’s first episode is:
Homer is diagnosed with narcolepsy — but instead of returning home with his prescription medication — he returns home drunk. He and Marge visit a marriage counselor and have a trial separation, during which Homer begins dating a 20-something.
  • Guest stars include:
    • Lena Dunham as Candace
    • Allison Williams as Candace’s friend
    • Zosia Mamet as Candace’s friend
    • Jemima Kirke as Candace’s friend
    • Laura Ingraham as Therapist
  • The episode is written by J. Stewart Burns and directed by Matthew Nastu.

Treehouse Of Horror XXVI

  • Kelsey Grammer will voice Sideshow Bob again. And Springfield’s most beloved killing-attempter will take part in the 26th Treehouse of Horror Special.
  • It is written by Joel H. Cohen and directed by Steven Dean Moore.
  • It is set to air in October 2015.
  • The three segments will have the following plots:
    • Sideshow Bob finally kills Bart and doesn’t know what to do with his life.
    • Homer wakes up with short-term memory loss.
    • Lisa, Bart and Milhouse get super-powers from radiation.
  • In one of those segments, Homer will appear as Homerzilla.
  • John Kricfalusi will animate the couch gag.

Cast and Crew

The voice actor Harry Shearer released shocking news recently when he stated that he might be leaving the show. Harry gives voice to a plethora of Springfield favorites such as Kent Brockman, Mr. Burns, Ned Flanders, Dr. Hibbert, Kang, Lenny Leonard, Rev. Lovejoy, Otto Mann, Principal Skinner, Waylon Smithers and Rainier Wolfcastle among many others.

He has announced that he has left the show, but is willing to return if he is given more freedom to do what he wants outside of The Simpsons. However, the producers have said that he has that freedom, and they don’t know what the problem is.

He wasn’t forced out of the show, and it’s not a case of money causing him to leave. He got offered the same contract the other main cast members got offered, and they all signed on May 1st. The contract he was offered is estimated to have been for $14 million over the 2 seasons.

In an interview with CNN Money, Shearer said “Stay tuned” when asked if there was a possibility he could be back. This might mean he’s willing to go back into negotiations, although it’s unlikely the contract will change.

If Shearer does not return to the show, his characters will be recast to different actors. It’s estimated that they have the Summer to get a deal made to keep him on the show and after that, they’ll have to look for new actors.

Update: read further below for a great news!

Sideshow Bob will finally kill Bart!

Sideshow Bob’s hatred for and obsession to kill Bart began quite a few years ago (1990, to be exact) and his many, many attempts have all ended with failure. This fall, however, his luck is about to change and he will finally fulfill his decades long, murderous plot. Bob will actually kill Bart Simpson. According to the news coming out of the ATX, this will reportedly be one of the segments of this year’s Treehouse of Horror XXVI. The alleged scenario of this segment will be that Bob finally kills Bart and then discovers that he doesn’t know what to do with himself now that his obsession and desire to kill Bart has been fulfilled.

The Simpson’s executive producer Al Jean revealed this bombshell during their ATX panel discussion this past Saturday, June 6, 2015. Jean, likening the Bob/Bart rivalry to a classic Looney Tunes duel, stated that he had always wanted to see Wile E. Coyote actually catch the Road Runner in the classic animated series. Partly as a result of that unfulfilled wish, Bob will finally get his opportunity to execute Bart.

Please don’t fret and panic thinking that Bart will be gone forever. He’ll be good as new right after this airing because this episode is a typical “non-canon” Treehouse of Horror, which means that the events in the episode don’t take place in The Simpsons‘ timeline, or what is considered “reality” of Springfield.

Homer and Marge divorce!

After 26 seasons and 574 episodes, you might think that The Simpsons has run out of stories to tell. Not so! In a decision that definitely won’t enrage any of the show’s loyal viewers, Simpsons executive producer Al Jean revealed that Homer and Marge will be splitting up, and Girls star Lena Dunham is stepping in to voice Homer’s new love interest.
In an interview with Variety, Jean explained that the break in Homer and Marge’s marriage will take place in the season’s September 27 premiere. “It’s discovered after all the years Homer has narcolepsy and it’s an incredible strain on the marriage,” says Jean. “Homer and Marge legally separate, and Homer falls in love with his pharmacist, who’s voiced by Lena Dunham.”
Of course, The Simpsons wouldn’t cast its decades-long central relationship aside just for Lena Dunham. That would be crazy. And that’s why the other women of Girls will show up in the episode, too.

Homer and Marge Are NOT Breaking Up For Good!!!

There has been a lot of rumors flying around the Internet that Homer and Marge will be breaking up for good. This has come from Al Jean saying “Homer and Marge legally separate”. Okay, now read that quote again. “Homer and Marge legally separate”. Where in that does it say “for good”, “for a season-long arc”, “forever”? Oh, yeah… NOWHERE!

Why the media have taken this and blown it up is beyond me. When has The Simpsons ever done a season long arc? Plot points very rarely extend longer than an episode. Homer and Marge have had trouble with their marriage in the past. But they have always gotten through it.

Also, I would like to point out that the information for this episode, which is the season 27 premiere “Every Man’s Dream” in which Homer and Marge separate has been known since January. That’s 5 months! It’s been known for 5 months that they will separate and it is only just brought up now!

Homer and Marge are not separating for longer than an episode so stop believing what the media is spreading.

Fox about the divorce rumors

FOX has published a video on YouTube in order to stop the rumors about Marge and Homer breaking up in Season 27.

FOX has posted that video because the rumors have spread up very quickly and they now are known worldwide.

The video has been made private and was removed.

Homer will vote in 2016!

Back in 2008, we saw Homer trying to vote in Season 20‘s “Treehouse of Horror XIX” opening segment. He tried to vote for Obama but all his votes went to McCain. And in 2012, he voted for Romney because he invented Obamacare (“Homer Votes 2012“).

And next year [2016] we’ll see something like that taking place. Showrunner Al Jean has revealed it during the interview with Variety. That is basically the only new information he has given.

The Other Season’s Episodes

  • Al Jean stated on Twitter that Season 27 will have a total of 22 episodes.
  • This season won’t feature a Christmas-themed episode. But it will have a Valentine’s-themed episode in February (“Love Is in the N2-O2-Ar-CO2-Ne-He-CH4″).
  • The episode “Halloween of Horror” will be a “canon” episode taking place in October 2015. What this means is the story is set to be realistic in line with the “real world” of Springfield, not alternate stories. This is very intriguing as almost all of the Treehouse episodes were “non-canonical” and all took place in alternate realities and times.
  • The episode “Love Is in the N2-O2-Ar-CO2-Ne-He-CH4″ is going to be a Valentine’s Day-themed episode scheduled to air in February 14, 2016. (Exactly a Love-themed episode airing in Valentine’s Day). According to Al Jean, the episode won’t be about a “Homer and Marge marriage crisis”. It will involve Professor Frink.
  • Al Jean also stated at their ATX panel discussion that a fan-favorite character from The Simpsons Movie will return during the upcoming 27th season. Homer’s beloved pet pig, Plopper, will be back!
  • Kate McKinnon and Natalie Maines will guest star as homeless women who both possess an incredible singing voice! (In an episode titled “Gal of Constant Sorrow“)
  • ‘Cue Detective: Homer will delve into the underground world of barbeques. Scotty Boom, a Chew Network super-chef, challenges Homer to a smoke-off. But when someone steals Homer’s secret weapon – a smoker he bought off a mysterious man at a BBQ shack – Lisa and Bart are on the case.
  • Puffless: Upon learning that their father really died of lung cancer, Selma and Patty agree to quit smoking. When Selma relapses, an angry Patty moves in with Marge and Homer.
  • Friend with Benefit: Lisa makes a new pal at school named Harper, whose internet billionaire father becomes buddies with a different Simpson: Homer. Soon, though, Lisa becomes worried that Harper is a little too entitled.
  • Barthood: Bart’s coming of age story a la “Boyhood” chronicles his life from six years old to his time as an accomplished young man. Along the way, his tense relationship with Homer, an overly uncaring version of himself, and Lisa, who overshadows him in every way possible, shape Bart more than he realizes. It will be a flashback/forward episode that will parody the oscar award-winning film Boyhood. And it will air in December 2015.
  • Much Apu About Something: The plot will involve Apu. Apu have a falling out with his brother Sanjay, resulting in Sanjay’s nephew Jamshed taking over the Kwik-E-Mart.
  • Teenage Mutant Milk-fed Hurdles: After Bart starts drinking a milk substitute filled with bad hormones, he experiences early puberty and grows a little mustache — as well as feelings for Mrs. Berrera, his new teacher. Mrs. Berrera winds up in the middle of a romantic rivalry, as she also draws the attention of Principal Skinner. She feels Skinner is a wounded soul that she wants to take care of. She is a vet like Skinner, and that’s his attraction.
  • How Lisa Got Her Marge Back: Marge take Lisa on a girls trip to Capital City where they attend a performance of Bad News Bears: +The Musical, starring Rannells. After the show, he meets Lisa backstage where he tells Lisa she has a great mom and is lucky to have her.
  • Halloween of Horror: When Lisa becomes scared at the Krustyland Halloween Horror Night, Homer is forced to take down his Everscream Terrors decorations. Halloween pop-up employees seek vengeance on Homer for causing them to lose their jobs, and rob his house while Homer and Lisa hide out in the attic. Homer and Lisa light up their stored holiday decorations to attract attention and stand up to the intruders.
  • Paths of Glory: Lisa sets out to restore the tarnished reputation of Springfield’s first female inventor. To find her invention, she scours an abandoned asylum and a restaurant that caters to men. Bart joins Lisa at the asylum, stealing one of the homicidal patient’s notebooks, and bragging to the boys at school that he wrote the entries himself. This revelation causes Homer and Marge to believe he is a sociopath, which Bart decides to use to his advantage until things go too far.
  • The Girl Code: After a photo Marge posts on social media gets Homer fired, he returns to the best job he ever had, a dishwasher at a Greek restaurant. This same post inspires Lisa to code an app that predicts the real-life consequences of anything you post online, only to create sentient artificial intelligence.
  • Untitled episode: Homer loses $5,000 in a poker game and loans Lisa out to repay the debt.
  • Untitled episode: The Simpsons’ home gets robbed.
  • Untitled episode: Smithers quits his job and falls in love with Julio.
  • Untitled episode: Maggie befriends animals and with the help of Spider-Pig rescues a possum from Cletus’ kitchen. It’s half a Maggie short that was produced “in Disney-style”, according to Al Jean.

Harry Shearer Returns to The Simpsons!

Voice actor Harry Shearer has returned to the show after seemingly quitting seven weeks ago. The actor, who voices many characters in The Simpsons, said that he quit the show over having little freedom to do other things.

Shearer has signed the same contract as the other main cast members, which is a four season contract which is estimated to earn each cast member more than $300,000 per episode.

It was feared by fans of the show that his characters could be recast as Al Jean stated that if Shearer did not sign on by the end of Summer at the latest, his characters would be recast to different voice actors.

Shearer quitting due to not having enough freedom to do other things is possibly because in a period where Harry Shearer thought he had a break from the show, but the producers requested material from him as they were unaware of this arrangement. Even if this was the case, it’s been cleared up now and Shearer’s back.

Bart’s new teacher has been announced

A new teacher has been announced for Bart after the former teacher, Mrs. Krabappel, was retired after the death of Marcia Wallace.

The voice actress name is Sofia Vergara, which will cover the role of Mrs. Berrera. Bart will grow feelings for her after he starts drinking a milk substitute filled with bad hormones and starts experiencing early puberty and grows mustache.

Executive producer Al Jean says “She’s more forgiving than Mrs. Krabappel was of Bart. She pays special attention to him.”

Seymour Skinner also has an interest in her. Al Jean notes “We thought it’d be interesting if both Bart and Skinner have a crush on the same woman. She feels Skinner is a wounded soul that she wants to take care of. She is a vet like Skinner, and that’s his attraction.”

Jean also adds that it’s possible she can return in future episodes. “We have a situation where Bart doesn’t have a regular teacher,” referencing Mrs. Krabappel’s death, “so she may or may not come back. [Sofia] was really funny and we were glad to have her, and as she said, ‘I’m just 100 yards away on the Fox lot.’”

Vergara also voiced characters in two other Fox animated series: Family Guy and The Cleveland Show.

Smithers surprise and “Orange is The New Yellow” and “Much Apu About Nothing” plots

In an interview with TVLine, Al Jean revealed the plot for the Season 27 finale, Orange Is the New Yellow: “Marge lets Bart go to the park alone because he’s too irritating, then she ends up getting arrested. I read a column by Mitch Albom, the writer of Tuesdays with Morrie, about a mother who was arrested for letting her son play in the park while she had to work. Albom was saying, ‘When did it become illegal to let your kids play in the park when they’re 10? When did kids have to be on a leash every minute?’ So that’s the basis of our story.”

Continuing the interview, Al Jean denies it’ll be a parody of Orange Is the New Black,  “It’s more about dealing with that real issue. Nobody wants a child to be neglected, but I very much feel for a mom who has to work and can’t afford a sitter.”

Al Jean continues revealing Smithers has a surprise for Mr. Burns in a yet untitled episode. “In Springfield now, most people know he’s gay, but obviously Burns doesn’t. We deal with that in two episodes. … We actually do a lot with Smithers this year; he gets fed up with Burns not appreciating him and considers his options.”

After Homer and Marge’s “separation”, Jean also reveals that, in Much Apu About Something, Apu will have a falling out with his brother Sanjay, with Sanjay’s nephew, Jamshed, taking over the Kwik-E-Mart.

Al Jean concludes that “Jamshed is 100 percent American. He doesn’t speak like Apu and even disrespects his way of speaking.”

We’d like to thank TVLine for reporting the interview.
